DEADBEAT CUSTOMERS |
|
I believe for the most part, that people are good. Some of the finest people I run across
are in the softball community. Most of my business consists of repeat customers. We all know
each other and develop personal relationships. The vast majority of my
customers are wonderful and I am privileged to be a part of their lives and to assist in the
development of their pitching.
I run my business like the old 'corner store'. I allow customers to 'run a tab' with me.
Sometimes, a customer may put an item on their account and pay for it with next month's bill.
Other times I have helped out when money was tight by letting them make installments, or skip
payments
and make it up later. So when I get taken advantage of, it is partially my own fault for
allowing it to happen and I readily admit it. However, that does not excuse or justify
the flagrant dishonesty of those customers who intentionally rip me off. And so it goes...The actions of a
few usually screw it up for everyone else.
All DEADBEATS can have their name removed by paying their account balances. |
***KEN WAHRMUND RETRACTION***I made a terrible mistake and placed someone on this list who did not belong on it. That person was Ken Wahrmund. Through no fault of his own, Ken's name was placed here on the "Deadbeats" list. The reason was that I had confused him with another person, who was taking lessons with me during the same time frame. This mistake was *COMPLETELY* my fault. Ken was a great customer and I have deeply offended him with this mistake. For that, I have contacted him and apologized to the best of my ability. This "DEADBEATS" list is somewhat offensive and is intended to be - because these people have stolen from me - and *I* find that offensive. I'd like nothing better than to have them contact me and straighten the matter out. However, in this case, I had the story right, but I had the name wrong. I'd be a liar if I said I was perfect and never made a mistake. I'm a lot of things - but I'm not a liar. In 15-years, this was the first time I had made the mistake of confusing someone as a "deadbeat". Unfortunately, it happened to a nice guy and good customer. So I am stepping up right here and claiming this mistake as MY MISTAKE and making every effort to clear the record and say that this was a terrible mistake. Ken's name should never have been on this list. Again - Ken - I apologize. |
Darrell Queen - Owes $250 for pitching and a batting helmet with facemask. He took a batting helmet and asked me to put it on his account, then got behind 2-months in pitching payments and I let him slide (hey - times are tough in this economy and I am not without compassion for those on hard times). Then rather than be a man about it, he ran off. Like the coward he is he has ignored emails and phone calls and owes me $200.00 for pitching + $50 for the batting helmet and facemask. |
Angela Slupe - still owes $250 for pitching lessons for her daughter. She got behind in her payments and I let her slide. I got a sob-story about her being a single mom...blah-blah-blah ...she stood there and cried - complete with tears and all... and looked me square in the eye and told me what a great guy I was for letting her daughter continue. She said she would pay me back and would make this right...and I could trust her...and I bought it. |
Bill Lasker - still owes $300.00 for pitching lessons for his daughter.Bill signed his daughter up to take group pitching lessons. He got behind in is payments after the first month and 'poor-mouthed' it to me with all sorts of details about difficulties in his life. He asked if he could pay me the following month. The same thing happened the next month. I cut him some slack again...we're here for the kids, right? At the point that Bill was $300.00 behind, I had to pull the plug and say 'no more'. He told me how he appreciated me cutting him some slack and he assured me he would come back and pay the balance due. Well, shame on me. He never showed up again. Despite repeated phone calls, Bill has yet to return a call, or respond to an email. He does not reside at the address he gave me. I have since learned from many others that this is standard operating procedure for Bill. Bill's phone number answers with 'Hill Country Construction' ...he either works for them or owns the company or something. I wonder how he feels about DEADBEATS who don't pay him? |
Robert Grubb - still owes money on a baseball glove from 2005!Robert did not have quite enough money to purchase a glove for his son back in 2005. He asked if he could partially pay for the glove, take it with him and come back and pay the balance the following week. I told him 'sure'. And why not? Afterall, Robert was a local...heck, I know some of his relatives. We made repeated phone calls as friendly reminders that he still owed money on the glove and all were ignored. |
